Melbourne Storm vs Brisbane Broncos: Preview & Prediction

Storm
vs
Broncos

AAMI Park should be buzzing on Friday night. Kick-off is set for 8:00 pm in Melbourne, which is 10:00 pm in New Zealand.

This feels like one of the biggest games of the round. There’s recent history between these sides and plenty of emotion around it.

Melbourne Storm

Melbourne look sharp early in the new season. They opened with a crushing 52-4 win over Parramatta.
Harry Grant was outstanding in that match.

Jahrome Hughes and Cameron Munster kept the tempo high all night. Their Round 2 squad also stayed strong, with the same key spine in place.

The Storm also seem settled in the right areas. Sua Fa’alogo has been trusted at fullback.

Stefano Utoikamanu has added size to the middle. That gives Melbourne a very balanced look.
Their attack already looks slick, and their shape with the ball is hard to contain.

Brisbane Broncos

Brisbane arrive with far more questions. They were held scoreless in Round 1 by Penrith.
Then they lost 40-32 at home to Parramatta after leading early.

That means the Broncos head into this clash at 0-2. Their attack has shown flashes, but the defence has looked far too loose.

There are also fresh concerns around Brisbane’s squad. Brendan Piakura was still sidelined for Round 2.

Adam Reynolds left the Eels game with a rib issue. That is not ideal before a trip to Melbourne.

The Broncos still have strike power, but they do not look calm or well balanced right now. One thing Brisbane will cling to is confidence from last year.

They beat Melbourne 26-22 in the 2025 Grand Final. That memory matters. It proves the Broncos can hurt this team when their edge players get rolling.

Still, this meeting feels different. Melbourne look cleaner, calmer and more organised right now.

So, who are we backing here?

Prediction for Melbourne Storm vs Brisbane Broncos

The Storm look the more reliable side. They are defending with far more control. Their spine is in rhythm. Their home record and game management also give them a major edge.

Brisbane can score points, especially through Walsh, Mam and Staggs. But if their defence breaks again, Melbourne will punish them quickly.

Our bet is firmly on Melbourne Storm to win.

The Broncos should have moments, but the Storm look too settled at home.

Storm win by 10 to 14 points.
