NRL Round 6 Preview & Prediction: Bulldogs vs Panthers

Bulldogs
vs
Panthers

Accor Stadium should be buzzing on Thursday night. Kick-off is set for 7:50 pm in Sydney, which is 9:50 pm in New Zealand.

This looks like one of the toughest tests of the round. Two disciplined sides are set to collide in a game that may be decided by patience.

Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs

The Bulldogs have made a strong start to the season. They edged the Dragons in golden point in Las Vegas.

Then they beat Canberra in a tense, low-scoring battle. They also took down Newcastle in Round 4. That run says a lot about their grit and control. Stephen Crichton has led from the front again.

Lachlan Galvin has added composure, while Matt Burton still gives them a long kicking threat.

There are still a few concerns around Canterbury. Josh Curran has been dealing with a rib injury.

The attack has also needed a few tweaks at times. There was even a recent in-game switch involving Crichton and Burton to spark the left edge.

That worked, but it also showed the Bulldogs are still searching for their cleanest attacking shape.

Penrith Panthers

Penrith, meanwhile, still look like the benchmark. They opened 2026 by beating Brisbane, Cronulla and Parramatta. Their defence has been the standout feature.

They conceded only 10 points across their first three games. Nathan Cleary has looked in total command. The Panthers do not waste much, and they rarely beat themselves.

Penrith have a few issues to deal with, with Mitch Kenny suspended and Freddy Lussick set to start at hooker.

Jack Cogger is also working back from a concussion. Even so, Penrith still look deep, calm and well-drilled. That is why they remain so hard to tip against.

Recent history gives this clash even more edge. The Bulldogs beat Penrith late last season. That result should give them belief.

But Penrith have still handled big matches better over a longer stretch, and that matters here.

So, who are we backing in this one?

Prediction for Bulldogs vs Panthers

The Bulldogs should make this physical and uncomfortable. Their defence is good enough to keep the score tight for a long time.

But Penrith still look like the more complete side. Their structure is cleaner, their game management is sharper, and Cleary usually owns the key moments. That could be the difference in a match like this.

Our bet is firmly on the Panthers to win.

The Bulldogs should stay in the fight and make them earn it. Still, Penrith look more likely to control the final stages.

A Panthers win by 4 to 8 points.
